We love music, we love learning, and we love building brand new things. We are Ten Kettles.
Read more >I got an email a few months ago from a hearEQ user. He really liked the app, but had one piece of feedback. It needed a new built-in track, specifically one of the songs he’d written and recorded called “City Line.”
This user’s name was Kaden Thrower and he’s a young singer-songwriter. He’d attached the song to the email and I was curious. It was a bold email! But super positive and friendly too.
I pressed play. The guitar part started and I thought “OK, this is pretty well recorded.” Then the vocals kicked in. I was impressed. But what really got me was the songwriting.
“Just what I need (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️). Heard about hearEQ training from a friend. Really need it. Always playing solo acoustic gigs and the mix sounds horrible. Or I buy a pedal or a mixer to save the day and it just makes it worse. Using this training I hope to figure out what needs adjusted up or down so I can give my performance some much needed clarity. Scoring 3 out of 10 on Day 1 so I definitely need it.”

The song eventually finished playing, but I couldn’t get it out of my head! Great melody, lots of space, and after a couple days with the idea, I agreed: this track would be a good fit for hearEQ.
So, that’s the first piece of news: as of today, all hearEQ users will get Kaden’s fantastic song added to their built-in hearEQ library. Just update the app and it’ll appear. 👍 Don’t have the app yet?
But there was something else. That initial curiosity about the track extended to Kaden himself. Who was this fellow? When did he start writing? What’s his life like as an active musician? I had questions.
So I decided to do something I’ve never done before. An interview. Kaden agreed and we had a really great chat. We talked about his path from a 12 year old musician to today, why he chose to go to music school, how he makes money as a musician—and of course, how he wrote City Line. Here is our conversation:
It was a really thought-provoking conversation, and it definitely got me thinking more about getting back into performing myself. Maybe it’ll have the same effect on you! Watch it above and share it on your favourite social network to help spread the word about Kaden.
